Just a bit of fun imagining what I would be like as a force user in the star wars universe.
In an interview with the BBC, George Lucas says, "Jedi Knights aren't celibate - the thing that is forbidden is attachments - and possessive relationships."
Now to me this is close, but no cigar. Cool, I am allowed sex. I can dig that. Celibacy sucks as far as I'm concerned. And I hate possessive relationships also. Sentient beings are sovereign individuals not owned by anyone. I am not against monogamy, so long as it is not possessive. In other words, two sovereign individuals can make compact to only engage sexually with each if thats what they want to do, but they remain sovereign individuals and not each others property. So fine, I can agree with that also.
But this attachments thing is bugging me. You mean I wouldn't be able to form emotional connection with my sexual partners? You mean I wouldn't be able to LOVE them? That it would just be disconnected recreational sex? Not that I'm against recreational sex, but, no loving connection? Not EVER?
Sorry, I'm outa there! Sounds too much like Bhuddist transcendentalism to me...
The Jedi Code:
' There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.'
I cannot abide by any philosophy that suppresses and denies emotion and passion.
What is more, that whole fear of the dark side seems a little out of balance to me. Also, politically, they seem to be clueless, seeming content to support and help a horribly bureaucratic and corporate dominated republic and actively support the prohibition of narcotics (as seen in one of the first
So this leaves the Sith. Now, I know what you're thinking (or do I?), aren't the Sith a bunch of fascists. Maybe a lot are, I don't know. Certainly the ones you see in the films are. And certainly the origin of the name Dark Lord of the Sith (from when the original darksiders took over the Sithm a race of primitive peoples skilled in the force ) also reflects an authoritarian attitude.
However, I've been thinking and what I have thought is this...
...the desire for power is really the desire to be able to live your life the way you want to, free from others telling you what you can and can't do. This is the quest for Sovereignty. This can go one of two ways. The first is the quick and foolish path, which is to crave the very top position of political power and make that power absolute. It is quick, because it does not require working with others to fix the ills of society, it is foolish, because the strength of the Sith lies in darkness and remaining hidden from the Jedi. Attaining positions of political power is likely to attract attention. And also, there is always the danger your Sith Apprentice will become more powerful than you, rebel and snuff you.
The other path for the Sith requires courage and strength, but is actually more wise. And that is to work in the anarchist underbelly of society, spreading a philosophy of love, passion and feeling, partying it up with cool rebelious music, and all the trappings of counter culture...
Probably they work to undermine the Empires of the Sith as much as they seek to undermine the Republics of the Jedi, both are corrupt authoritarian systems that deny freedom and Individual Sovereignty.
Finally, I leave you with The Sith Code:
' Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.'
Join with me on the Dark Side, and we will PARTY! Only when sovereignty has been attained for all, will we see what sovereignty really means...

Chemical Serpents
Been away from Deviant Art for some time, other than to favourite a few things and leave the odd comment, so I'm not sure if anyone will even notice this journal entry. I've been busy writing and not producing much visual over the past few years. That is not to say I haven't produced any, and I should share some of the best, but rather my main focus has been on my writing.
In 2013 the book 'Chemical Serpents', a collaboration between my writing and the art and illustration of JaniceDuke (https://www.deviantart.com/janiceduke) was published by WhIP (When Illuminated Press). We're both quite excited about it. You can find out more here:

KIAMagic.com Projects
Take a look what we're up to on KIAMagic.com on our new projects page:
http://kiamagic.com/wiki/index.php/Projects
The idea of this wiki page is it collates together all the various threads, pages and sites related to significant projects we've been working on so they don't get lost in the constant stream of activity and new members can more easily see what we're up to...
KIA Magic: A collaborative grimoire
Over on kiamagic.com, a non-hierarchical networking site for occulture and stuff like that, I've started a project for a collaborative book to contain articles, rituals, poetry, artwork, illustration, comic strips and short stories on the themes of chaos, alchemy, magic, sorcery, mysticism, anarchy and stuff like that. At least thats the seed of the idea. Its community project so we'll see how it evolves. It's still in its formative stages right now so now is a good time to get involved if this idea appeals to you as you can help shape what it will be.
To participate you'll need an account on kiamagic.com, which is currently invitation on
Apologies to my Friends
I got so behind on my DA journal reading that I just deleted them all without looking at them. There were 73 in all. I just felt overwhelmed by it all. Feels good to have deleted them to be honest. I don't mean to have ignored you all lately.
Anyway, I've released yet another blog on my serpent.antonchanning.com site:

I think Jedis have some law against candy, too.
